History of Ukrainian cheesecakes
Ukrainian cheesecakes, or syrnyky, have a long history in Ukrainian cuisine, dating back to the 16th century. Originally made with quark cheese, the recipe evolved over time to include ingredients like semolina, flour, and sugar, resulting in a more cake-like texture. These changes also made the cakes more filling and popular as a breakfast or dessert option. Today, Ukrainian cheesecakes remain a beloved dessert in Eastern Europe, often served with sour cream, jam, or honey. They are a staple of Ukrainian cuisine and enjoyed as a comforting sweet treat or hearty breakfast food.
